Friday, December 17, at around 6:45 PM a motorist passing by reported to Genesee County Dispatch Center a possible Barn Fire at 3971 Broadway Rd in the Town of Alexander.
Alexander Fire Department along with one Ladder Truck and Tanker from The Town of Batavia were dispatched. Alexander 104 went on location and reported possible smoke showing. After further investigation it was determined to be the house that was burning and a second alarm was requested. Departments responding to the scene or for standby were: Alexander, Town of Batavia, Bethany, Darien, East Pembroke, Pavilion, Attica, Stafford, City of Batavia, Attica Correctional, Oakfield, Alden, York, Genesee County Emergency Management, Genesee County Sheriff and New York State Police.

No injuries were reported, however after approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes into the fire as crews were removing a boarded up window to get better access to a room a Dog came to the window and was removed from the building. It was taken to an Ambulance where it was dried off and checked over. As I was leaving the scene the dog was with family members and appeared to be fine. "INCREDIBLE". Sorry to any departments that I missed. PHOTOS

2011 Lake Effect Firefighter Ski Race Announced "Downhill Skiing to Support an Uphill Climb"

Brother and Sister Firefighter,
The present and future of our heritage as firefighters lies in the youths that are approaching the age of adolescence. The role we play as firefighters and mentors is to nurture, train and attempt to instill the best examples possible. Being a proactive part of the Western New York Community, the North Boston Fire Company has joined an alliance with the Kids Escaping Drugs Campaign for the 13th Annual HoliMont SkiScape/ Lake Effect Firefighters Ski Race on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 8AM-4:30PM at the HoliMont ski resort in Ellicottville, NY.

The Kids Escaping Drugs Campaign was created in 1987 with the sole purpose to raise, manage and distribute funds for the development and support of facilities, education and prevention programs for adolescents and their families in Western New York suffering from alcohol and drug dependency/addiction.

This event promises to accomplish many goals, the most significant being the camaraderie and public interaction with the proud tradition of the fire service, while raising funds to help curb an out of control epidemic that directly affects our livelihood as firefighters.

So, mark the date now, and please tell 100 of your closest friends! If you don't have a team of 4, call on neighbors for mutual aid, or register single and we will place you in a team. Come join hundreds of firefighters from all over WNY, Southern Ontario, Rochester and the Hudson Valley in competing in this years Lake Effect Firefighter Ski Race!

What could be more fun then to see four firefighters wearing full protective equipment, on skis, linked together by carrying a 50ft length of
1 3/4" hose through a race course? Fastest Team wins and spills are frequent.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED: Registration Form Download on www.northbostonfire.com (Complete list of rules will be furnished upon registration)

Donation for each team member is $60 which provides:
¢Lift ticket to ski at HoliMont ($55 value) ¢Bag of goodies ¢Continental Breakfast ¢Entry to compete in Ski Race ¢Long Sleeve ¢Tee shirt ¢Buffet Lunch ¢Apres Ski Party For more details visit www.northbostonfire.com. Any questions should be directed to Sean Crotty at LakeEffectFirefighterSkiRace@verizon.net or Christina Kruzer at the Kids Escaping Drugs office at (716) 827-9462 x307.

See you on the slopes!

Wednesday October 27th at 0530 hrs Bergen responded with mutual aid from Churchville to a two MVA car with entrapments at 6499 N. Lake Street Road. Bergen chief Crosier was first on scene and reported a two vehicle car vs tanker with two separate entrapments. While extrication was being performed, spill containment and preventative measures were conducted to control the leakage of approximately 75-100 gallons of diesel fuel as a result of a compromise of the delivery trucks saddle tanks and off-load valves.

Also responding for assistance was the Genesee County Emergency Management Office, Sheriff's Office, Mercy Flight Batavia, NYS DEC and DOT, and an Environmental Cleanup Crew. Traffic was closed in both directions for most of the day and later opened in one direction until remediation was completed.

Mercy Flight flew one patient to strong while the other was transported to the same location via Bergen Ambulance. PHOTOS

Saturday September 4th., at 2:50 PM., Stafford Fire Department was dispatched to 9418 Roanoke Rd. for a power line down on the roof arcing with smoke showing. Stafford 951 went on location and reported heavy smoke showing from the roof area and requested a second alarm. Windy conditions and water supply issues hampered the firefighting efforts as well as adding to the spread of the fire. Water was trucked from a pond as well as an LDH supply line laid from a hydrant that was 3/4 of a mile from the scene.

A third alarm was needed to bring this fire under control. A power line between the barn and the house fell during gusty winds and apparently started combustible materials under the metal roof to catch fire. Departments assisting Stafford at the scene or on Standby were: Byron, South Byron, Bethany, Pavilion, LeRoy, Town of Batavia, Bergen, Alexander, Oakfield, Caledonia, York, Wyoming, Wyoming Correctional, LeRoy Volunteer Ambulance, Mercy EMS and Genesee County Emergency Management. PLEASE NOTE:
I am making changes to how the training schedule is posted. There are several reasons the main is simplicity in maintaining multiple websites using one source file. Changes you will see are multiple county training listings with the host site being on top. For example, The Orleans site will have Orleans followed be neighboring counties. The Genesee site will have Genesee training listed first followed by neighboring counties, and so on and so forth. Clicking on any hyperlinked class title will take you to that host county website for full class details, including the correct EMO office to call for scheduling. Another change is any STATE classes will be listed in red, EMS classes in green and all other county offered or other FD offered classes in light blue. I hope these changes will make it easier for you as well as for me.

The LeRoy Fire Department held Volunteer Days at the station February 20th and 21st. This was done in connection with the Disney Give a Day Get a Day program. Volunteers from the area started the day learning about the Department and were given a detailed tour of the apparatus. They were then split into teams to work on various tasks at the station. The tasks included washing and waxing trucks, cleaning gear and hose, constructing training props and much more. We received a lot of positive feedback from the program and got a ton of work done. Everyone who completed will receive one free ticket to any Disney Theme Park during the 2010 season. PHOTOS

Additional days are scheduled for the public on March 6th and 27th.
