My name is Vanessa and I am an RIT film student.  I am looking to shoot a small house or shack on fire for a film, and, instead of adding 3D effects, I am trying to film the real thing. The safest way to do this, I figure, would be to film a controlled burn. If you know of any that might be taking place before December, would you let me know? Or, if you knew of a better way for me to get the word out, any assistance would be appreciated.

On August 27th, the LeRoy Fire Department placed into service the new Engine 63. This apparatus will play a key role in the response of the fire department to all areas of the district. Engine 63 will be the first responding unit to all fires and motor vehicle accidents. All mutual aid requests for an engine will get this unit along with rescue 66 for support. 63 will also respond to all standby calls.

The truck has a 500+ horsepower Caterpillar engine. The power is used to drive the 2000 gallons per minute pump and put the 1800 gallons of water in the tank into motion. It has a telescoping light tower that is powered by an onboard 15K generator. The generator also helps power a full set of “Jaws of Life” extrication equipment.

Many hours of planning, inspecting, outfitting and driver training went in to getting this Engine in service. The entire process took almost a year to complete. Thanks to all those who made extra efforts to get this valuable truck in service.

Mutual Aid was called one engine from Bergen to the scene and one engine from Stafford to fill in. Bergen Engine was sent to setup on Route 19, crews from LeRoy and Bergen along with the help of GM-9 continuously metered surrounding house until RG&E arrived. General Electric Co. is recalling 2.5 million dishwashers because of a wiring problem that could cause fires.
The recall, government regulators said Wednesday, includes dishwashers sold under the brands Eterna, GE, GE Profile, GE Monogram, Hotpoint, and Sears-Kenmore.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said consumers should stop using the devices immediately and contact the company for a free repair or a rebate towards a new dishwasher.
GE has received nearly 200 complaints of overheating, including 12 fires caused by the washers. The machines' wiring is susceptible to shorting out or overheating, the government said, if liquid rinse solution leak outs of dispensers.
Customers with one of the affected models can receive a $150 rebate to purchase a new GE dishwasher or a $300 rebate towards the purchase of a new GE Profile of GE Monogram dishwasher. For more information contact GE at (877)607-6395 or visit the company's Web site at www.geappliances.com.

In case anyone is wondering about the green message banner, I installed it on the Orleans web as well to alert personnel about a communications issue that came up after a brief storm passed though. I felt this would be a good idea to get the attention and further pass an urgent message along. When the banner is green, there are no urgent messages. Likewise, when it changes to red, you will see the message scroll by and repeat itself. I ran this by Tim and he agrees it would be good to have. The nice part about this is I can update it remotely from anywhere as long as I have web access.

On Saturday, March 24, 2007, the Town of Batavia Fire Department placed a 2006 Engine manufactured by 4 Guys, Inc. in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania in service.

The engine, identified as Town of Batavia Engine 21, is built on a Spartan Chassis, with an aluminum, flat floor, Diamond medium, four door cab with a 10" raised roof. The crew capacity is 6 firefighters, including the driver and officer.

The engine is powered by a Cummins ISL-400 Turbo charged diesel engine coupled with an Allison 3000 EVS automatic transmission.

Water is supplied from a governed Waterous CSUYCK 1500 GPM mid-ship mounted pump with a 1000 gallon water tank on board. A Hydro/Foam Pro-1600, automatic-electronic, direct injection foam proportioning system delivers Class A foam to three discharges from a 20 gallon foam cell.

An Onan 6KW hydraulic Genset generator with "on the fly" capabilities supplies AC power for the truck. Systems are controlled from a Weldon multiplexed system with Vista III displays at both the driver and officer stations.

As is customary, Engine 21 will carry a full "Engine" complement of tools and equipment including 1200 feet of 5" large diameter supply hose as well as 800 feet of 2 ½" and 500' of 1 ¾" of attack line. It is equipped with TNT hydraulic tools and will be one of our primary mutual aid responding engines.

Engine 18 will be relocated to Station #2 on Clinton Street Road and will assume first due engine duties on the east side of the district. Engine 21 will be located at Station #1 on Lewiston Road and will assume first due engine duties on the west side of the district. Engine 24 will also be relocated to Station #1 and will be utilized as a supply engine. "Old" Engine 21 will be out of service (and available for sale). PHOTOS

Fire destroys Miller Millworks in Bergen  PHOTOS  RNEWS  D&C

Story below (Info from MCFW)
Churchville sent 2 pumpers, 1 tanker and an ambulance to the scene. Gates Co 3 filled in at Churchville. Brockport sent 1 pumper and a ladder to the scene and 1 pumper to fill in Bergen. Mumford and Morton operated at the scene with pumper tankers. Chili filled in at Bergen, Spencerport/Hamlin filled in at Brockport. Genesee county and Orleans county had too many departments to list with tankers.

Command of this incident was Bergen's Chief 301/Churchville's Chief 4C-12 (had to have 2 because of different radio systems until a patch was sent up). An exterior attack was called early on due to fire load/volume, construction, and low water pressure. Problems with the water pressure force a lengthy pumper relay on the south side operations.

South side operations consisted of Churchville's deputy chief 4C-22/Bergen's deputy chief 302 . The south side pumper relay consisted of 2 Churchville pumpers and 2 additional pumpers to feed multiple master streams including Leroy's tower.

North side operations consisted of Brockport 2C-13 & 2C-23/Bergen Deputy chief 303 . Bergen's/Brockport's equipment set up a tanker relay on the North side to feed Brockport's aerial and multiple master streams. North side operations were hampered by overhead high voltage lines and low water pressure.

Water supply operations consisted of Genesee county, Monroe County Coordinators and Morton 2C-11. CSX train operations were halted so LDH to Leroy's tower and master streams could cross the tracks. Eventually CSX traffic resumed when Leroy's tower repositioned south of the tracks operating over the trains (you don't see this everyday). Due to Firefighters efforts and newly constructed additions with fire walls the west portion of the structure and newly purchased equipment was saved

On Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 20:48 hrs., the Town of Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to Northgate Free Methodist Church, 8160 Bank Street Road, for a report of a "Water Problems/Water Main Break" in the sanctuary. Deputy Chief Robert Hunt was first on the scene and observed water pouring from the ceiling of the sanctuary from what was later learned to be a frozen and burst PVC sprinkler line. It is estimated that before the water could be shut off, several thousand gallons of water flowed into the sanctuary and an adjacent class room wing. Town of Batavia firefighters were on scene for as long as 3 hours assisting with water removal.

Six Flags management doesn't yet know what the new owners plan to name the Darien Lake park, but they do expect PARC to maintain a clean, safe, and family friendly atmosphere. "This company has over 40 years experience in recreational and leisure companies,” said Wendy Goldberg, Six Flags, Inc. “I believe they are perfectly positioned to take Darien Lake to the next level in the community.
