Reports of a car on fire sent firefighters to 4 West Avenue in LeRoy this
evening. First arriving Chief Tom Wood reported smoke issuing from a 2000
Pontiac Grand Prix GT.
The tow truck operator was preparing to tow the car from recycling, and
heard a loud "pop". The driver said the he was familiar with the "sound of a
GM fire". He attempted to extinguish the fire but was unable to open the
hood.
Engine 63 arrived and stretched an attack line and a back up line and had
the fire under control in less than ten minutes. Assistant Chief Bill Wood
said there "are tons of concerns" when responding to this occupancy. There
are "hundreds of cars parked next to each other, along with difficult access
after hours".

took this picture during the Pembroke burn drill on the 17th but forgot
which truck it was on. I would like to use it on the three firewires to
replace the top right picture but I wanted to get permission first. Thanks.

On May 21st, the LeRoy Fire District was dispatched at just after
midnight this morning for house fire. First arriving chiefs and law
enforcement officers found heavy fire from the A side of the two story, with
everyone out of the structure. Cries to save the house could be heard down
the dark street from the distressed homeowner over the crackling of the fire
and the chatter on the radios. Engine 63 arrived and stretched two attack
lines while Quint 65 laddered the building and began ventilation efforts.
These efforts resulted in a quick knockdown and contained the fire to the
front of the dwelling, although heavy smoke conditions were evident
throughout the structure.

A FAST team was summoned from the Town of Batavia, while mutual aid was
requested from Pavilion, Caledonia, and Bergen. The Stafford F.D. filled in
at LFD. One firefighter was treated and transported for minor injuries to
UMMC by Batavia Paramedics. Three civilians were transported by LeRoy
Paramedics to Strong Memorial, one of them with second and third degree
burns sustained while attempting to retrieve possessions from inside the
dwelling.
The Genesee County Emergency Management Office and the Genesee County
Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
