For over a year, FASNY has been conducting an aggressive recruitment
and retention campaign. The next component of this effort is an innovative
training program called “Train the Recruiter”. This program is designed to
provide local departments with the skills and resources necessary to conduct
effective outreach activities.
I would like to personally invite you to attend the upcoming “Train the
Recruiter” session in your area. Information on this session can be found at
http://www.fasny.com/index.php/membership/safer-grant-2/event-rsvp/.
This internet based calendar will also provide you the opportunity to secure
a seat at the session.
Please feel free to share this information with others in the volunteer fire
service. By working together we can implement effective and long-term
solutions to our common recruitment and retention challenges. Should you
have any questions, please contact me or your regional Assistant Volunteer
Programs Coordinator listed at the website shown above. Thank you for your

FUNDRAISER FOR INJURED SOLDIER CODY COOPENBERG,
HOMETOWN HERO AND HOLLEY VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER
Holley, New York – September 10, 2012 – The Coopenberg Family Fund
Committee announces a fundraising event to benefit PFC Cody Coopenberg and
family, to be held September 29, 2012.
US Army Private First Class Cody Coopenberg, 21, a graduate of Holley
High School, was critically injured in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, in
support of Operation Enduring Freedom on July 7, 2012. While refueling a
generator, it exploded in his face causing him to suffer third degree burns
over 60% of his body, including his face, chest, and arms. Cody has since
been transported to San Antonio, Texas for treatment of his injuries. His
wife Hannah is at his side as he faces a long and extremely painful recovery
from his injuries, including numerous surgical procedures and physical
therapy. It is expected he will remain in ICU for at least six more weeks.
His wife will remain until his treatment is complete, which is anticipated
to last a year or perhaps more. They have a 19-month-old son who is
currently in the care of family back home here in New York.
Cody and his family face a lifetime of questions about his potential
pain, disability, and continued treatment from his horrific injuries. The
financial burden on his family is enormous, as “everyday life” is put on
hold to provide support for their wounded warrior.
For this reason, a benefit fundraiser is scheduled for September 29,
2012, from Noon to 10:00 PM at the Holley Firemen’s Field, State Route 237,
North Main Street, Holley, New York. This event will feature a pig roast,
live bands, a cake auction, silent auction, activities for the whole family,
and much more.
To assist with the immediate financial burden, the Coopenberg Family Fund
has been established and is accessible at any First Niagara Bank branch.
Additionally, donations can be made at the following links:

FUNDRAISER FOR HOMETOWN HERO/FIREFIGHTER FROM HOLLEY NY
Saturday, September 29, Noon - ?, Holley Firemen's Field (across from
Holley Elementary School)
21 Year old soldier Cody Coopenberg was critically injured while serving
our country in Afghanistan.
Cody was injured when a generator blew up in his face on 7/7/12 while
serving our country in Afghanistan. He has 3rd degree burns covering more
that 60% of his body and faces about a year of hospitalization in Texas. He
struggles each day as he is in and out of consciousness, to deal with the
ordeal of his injuries as well as the very painful treatments and surgeries.
He will remain in ICU for probably 6 more weeks. His wife Hannah is at his
bedside to assist and encourage him. She has had to leave their 19 month old
son with family here in NY so she can attend to Cody, and has been informed
that she will need to be there for the duration of Cody's treatments.
We are appealing to you to help them cope with this horrible situation as
Cody will face a strong possibility of lifetime disability, treatment and
pain. Your donations will be used to offset the cost of expenses during the
span of this tragedy. Cody and Hannah will have a life time of unexpected
expenses due to the explosion that has Cody fighting for his life.
